5 steps to 5-a-day

Do you struggle to get your 5-a-day?

To help make the quest for a healthy a varied diet a little easier, simply follow these 5 steps!

1) Fruity breakfasts
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and sets the tone for your eating habits throughout the rest of the day. By adding fruit to your breakfast, you'll have managed the first of your '5-a-day' before even leaving the house!

Adding fruit to your breakfast needn't mean compromising your usual breakfast choice. For toast lovers, opting for sliced banana or mashed avocado as your topping is a great way to get a one of your 5-a-day. If you prefer cereal, why not add a handful of berries?

2) Keep your fruit bowl stocked up
When there's fresh fruit on hand, you'll be much more likely to choose that rather than unhealthy snacks. With regular fruit box delivery your fruit bowl will always be stocked up with fresh and delicious snacks that will help you get your 5-a-day.

3) Homemade sauces
By making your own sauces for meals such as spaghetti bolognaise, chilli or curry, you'll not only help to cut out unnecessary salt and sugar, but will also help to get your 5-a-day due to the addition of tinned tomatoes. When making your own sauces your are also in control of other ingredients you might choose to disguise (such as grated carrot!) within the sauce.

4) Potato swap
Sweet potatoes are a great sauce of beta-carotene and are a sweeter version of the carbohydrate us Brits tend to rely on, the potato. Just like the normal potato, sweet potatoes can be mashed, baked roasted and even made in to wedges! However, unlike normal potatoes, a sweet potato counts towards your 5-a-day.

5) Treat yourself
After dinner snacks don't have to be unhealthy to be delicious. A simple fruit salad (why not try pineapple, melon, blueberries and banana) could provide one of your 5-a-day whilst also beating those sugar cravings!
